Sunset 1, 2008, Youngsuk Suh

This Thursday, May 27 the Center for Contemporary Art Sacramento opens WILDFIRES, an exhibition by Verge resident artist Youngsuk Suh!!! Suh will be presenting a lecture at the Center on Thursday night to kick off the show at 7pm. A 2nd Saturday reception will also accompany the exhibition on June 12th.

Suh is new to VCA, having joined the project just a few weeks ago and we are excited to have him making work with us! For those who remember that eerie summer a couple of years back where the sun glowed red and the sky reflected a cloying, lavender haze for what seemed like forever, Suh’s work will resonate deeply. Suh’s beautiful compositions range from stark to ethereal, presenting unusual subjects in ways which border on fantasy, suspending the viewer’s understanding of the scenario they are seeing. The heavy smoke, appears like fog or mist in some instances masking the catastrophe these images actually depict.

This will be a busy summer for Suh. Following his CCAS exhibition Suh will be headed to New Hampshire for a one month residency at the prestigious MacDowell Colony. In the meantime, Suh’s work can be found on the SF Camerawork website as well as the artist’s own site here.

Stay tuned for more artist updates and get over to CCAS!!!
